It’s true that there is no love sweeter than a mother’s. A mother’s love is gentle, kind, nurturing and unwavering.

Beyond the cute content and wholesome family moments we see online, there is also real growth happening in the lives of celebrity moms. From sleepless nights to those small wins that make it all worthwhile, they are thriving as they become the best parents who are raising tomorrow’s leaders.

In celebration of Mother’s Day, BabyYumYum asked eight celebrity moms to share the lessons motherhood has taught them.

Lesego Khoza: Actress and Content Creator

“Motherhood has taught me to be patient. It has also taught me to be gentle. I don’t know, maybe gentle parenting is for gentle kids, but my child is definitely gentle. She has taught me to listen more, to take instruction more, and I do that. She has also taught me to focus on the little things. Most of the time, we focus on career-driven things, but now I focus more on things like learning how to ride a bike, learning how to swim, small things like that. They remind me of being a child again and I feel like that’s what motherhood has also taught me.”

Tirelo Kale: ‘Izingane Zes’thembu‘ Star

“Motherhood has been one of the most life-changing journeys of my life. It has taught me patience and unconditional love. Every stage comes with its own challenges and beautiful moments, and I’ve learned to give myself grace and trust my instincts more. It has shaped me into a stronger version of myself. I’ve become more intentional, protective, nurturing and appreciative of the little moments that truly matter.”

Kim Jones: ‘The Mommy Club: Sugar and Spice’ Star

“Before motherhood, I thought patience was simply the ability to wait, to pause gracefully, and to stay calm in moments of inconvenience. But motherhood and more specifically my daughter Skylar has taught me that patience is actually love in its softest, purest form. Skylar has shown me that life does not always need to be rushed toward the next milestone, because sometimes the magic exists right here in the pause.”

Camilla McDowell: ‘The Real Housewife of Cape Town’ Star

“Motherhood has taught me to persevere. More than anything else, it has shaped me into a much softer person. My mother always used to say, ‘you’re going to get the chips knocked off your shoulders,’ and I certainly have a few more around my shoulders now than I would have had if I had not been a mother.”

Pebetsi Matlaila: TV Host and Actress

“Motherhood, much like marriage, is a ministry. You are cultivating the minds of the young individuals that God has entrusted to you to grow into women and men of integrity, leaders who will guide with example, purpose and honesty. You are shaping the adults of tomorrow who will ultimately shape our society. That is why it is important to acknowledge yourself as someone raising young minds, cultivating and instilling values from the moment they are placed in your care as their primary guardian. I always advise parents to first heal from their own childhood traumas so they can properly raise the children they have brought into the world. Too often, parents raise their children through the lens of the pain and trauma they experienced growing up, which is why self-reflection and healing are so important.”

Ratile Mabotja: ‘The Mommy Club’ Star

“Mother’s Day is not just a date on the calendar, it is a sacred pause, a moment carved out of the chaos of life to honour the most thankless yet transformative role a woman can step into: motherhood. For me, being a mother is not just about biology. It is about showing up, through joy, through grief, through every uncertain morning and exhausting night. It is about becoming both the shelter and the storm, the nurturer and the disciplinarian, the silent prayer and the loud cheerleader. It is about wearing invisible crowns of resilience and learning how to love so fiercely that even your pain becomes a form of service. Motherhood has stretched me. It has broken parts of me I did not know could break and rebuilt them into softer, wiser, more powerful versions of myself. It has introduced me to fear, patience, guilt and love in ways I never imagined. It has forced me to face my shadows so I can raise children who shine.”

Anika (The City Makoti) Dambuza: Reality TV Star and Influencer

“One of the biggest lessons motherhood has taught me is that there’s no perfect way to do it. I’m learning every day. Some days I feel incredibly confident and other days I question everything. But I’ve realised that being present, loving deeply, and trying your best matters more than perfection ever will.”
