ABOUT THE STORY and the RECIPES

Mitch is living the good monkey life. As his home is in a tree above a fancy restaurant, his diet consists of fine-dining gifts from dinner guests. So when the chef puts up a new sign that reads ‘Do NOT Feed The Monkey!’, Mitch panics.

Who will bring him delicious food now?

But with help from some unexpected cooks, Mitch discovers that making his own food isn’t so bad after all.

This is a cookbook for children with 49 creative and easy recipes for all occasions, told through the adventures of a hungry monkey and his friends on the African savannah. The author, Marleen Lammers, is an experienced children’s fiction book storyteller, while the illustrator, Anja Stoeckigt has created the most charming and engaging depictions of both the animals and the recipes.

THE AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR OF DO NOT FEED THE MONKEY!

About the author: Marleen Lammers is a writer with a passion for children’s literature. Marleen (pronounced ‘Mar-layne’) grew up in the Netherlands, but moved around more than she ever intended to. She spent most of the past couple of decades in various countries in Southern Africa, working with non-profits. She now travels between South Africa, the UK and Cyprus with her partner and two sons, and mostly tries to avoid cold weather. This is her first cookbook adventure and, like Mitch, she learned quite a bit (and ate a lot of good food) in the process.

About the illustrator: Anja Stoeckigt is a self-taught illustrator with a love for everyday beautiful things. Through her company Paper-tales, and based from her studio in Cape Town, she creates cards, prints and other fun paper goods. She’s also illustrated a bunch of children’s books, including The Boy and the Tree (authored by Marleen Lammers), The Amazing Adventure series, and the award-winning How Many Ways Can You Say Hello?, and How Many Ways Can You Say Goodbye? (all published by Penguin Random House SA). Anja loves to take long walks on the beach, draw upside-down birds with top hats and eat Nutella right out of the jar.
