The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the Sassa payment dates for August, with payments set to begin from 4 August 2026. This month's payment cycle introduces a notable change, with Sassa adding a fourth payment day for beneficiaries who have been selected for grant reviews or eLife Certification, alongside the usual three-day payment schedule.

Sassa has confirmed the following payment dates:

  • Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 4 August
  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, 5 August
  • Children’s Grants: Thursday, 6 August
  • Fourth payment day (grant reviews and eLife Certification): Friday, 7 August

The Children’s Grants payment includes the Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant and Care Dependency Grant.

Why Has Sassa Introduced a Fourth Payment Day?

The additional payment day applies only to beneficiaries who have been identified for a grant review or eLife Certification.

According to SASSA, some beneficiaries became concerned when they did not receive their grants during the normal three-day payment cycle, despite having been notified that they were scheduled for payment on the fourth day. The agency said beneficiaries selected for reviews will receive an SMS notifying them of the process.

SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi urged beneficiaries to respond promptly to requests from the agency and to ensure their contact details remain up to date so they can receive important notifications. Beneficiaries who fail to complete the review process risk having their grants suspended until their eligibility has been confirmed.

Current SASSA Grant Amounts

Grant amounts remain unchanged for August following the increases implemented in April 2026.

Beneficiaries will receive:

  • Older Persons Grant (60 to 74 years): R2 400
  • Older Persons Grant (75 years and older): R2 420
  • Disability Grant: R2 400
  • War Veterans Grant: R2 420
  • Care Dependency Grant: R2 400
  • Foster Child Grant: R1 290
  • Child Support Grant: R580
  • Grant-in-Aid: R580
  • SRD Grant: R370

What About the SRD Grant?

Unlike permanent social grants, the SRD R370 grant follows a separate payment schedule. Payments are processed later in the month after verification has been completed, with beneficiaries receiving individual payment dates. August SRD payments are expected to be made between 24 and 30 August, although recipients should check their application status online for their specific payment date.

Sassa Reminds Beneficiaries Not to Rush

SASSA has once again reminded beneficiaries that there is no need to collect their grants on the first payment day. Once the money has been deposited into a beneficiary’s account, it remains available until it is needed.

The agency also encourages beneficiaries to ensure that their banking and contact details are kept up to date to help prevent payment delays and to receive important notifications about grant reviews or other administrative processes.
