The payment confirmation comes amid continued pressure on millions of financially vulnerable South Africans who rely on social grants for food, transport, electricity and school expenses every month. At the same time, authorities are pushing beneficiaries to replace old payment cards before the latest migration deadline to avoid future disruptions.

In recent weeks, Postbank launched what it described as the “final” phase of the SASSA Gold Card replacement process, warning that beneficiaries who fail to switch to the newer black cards before 31 August 2026 could lose access to grant payments.

Postbank Chief Commercial Officer Thamsanqa Cele urged beneficiaries to act urgently.

“Please act as soon as possible,” Cele said as Postbank intensified the nationwide replacement campaign.

June 2026 SASSA Payment Dates

SASSA confirmed the following payment dates for June 2026:

• Older Persons Grant — Tuesday, 2 June 2026
• Disability Grant — Wednesday, 3 June 2026
• Children’s Grants — Thursday, 4 June 2026 

The agency continues to stagger payments over several days to reduce overcrowding at retailers, ATMs and payment points.

SASSA has also repeatedly reminded beneficiaries that they do not need to withdraw all their grant money immediately after payment reflects, as funds remain safely available in their accounts.

Grant Increases Remain in Effect

The June payouts will continue to reflect the increases announced during the national budget earlier this year.

The increases include:

• Older Persons Grant — R2,400
• Disability Grant — R2,400
• War Veterans Grant — R2,420
• Foster Child Grant — R1,290
• Child Support Grant — R580

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant remains at R370 per month.

Government has already confirmed that the SRD grant has been extended until March 2027 as part of continued support measures for unemployed South Africans.

Pressure Grows Over Postbank Black Card Migration

The card migration process has become one of the biggest administrative challenges facing grant beneficiaries over the past year.

Postbank initially announced that SASSA Gold Cards would stop working in February 2025 before several extensions and adjustments followed during the rollout process. Government later confirmed that the migration would continue beyond earlier deadlines to ensure beneficiaries were not cut off from payments.

Last month, Postbank announced a renewed nationwide rollout campaign and set a new deadline of 31 August 2026 for beneficiaries still using Gold Cards.

According to Postbank, beneficiaries who fail to migrate before the deadline risk losing access to ATM withdrawals, retail purchases and balance enquiries linked to older cards.

The newer Postbank Black Cards are being issued free of charge at participating retailers including Shoprite, Checkers, Boxer, Usave and selected Pick n Pay stores. Beneficiaries only need a valid South African ID or temporary ID to replace their cards.

Beneficiaries Warned About Scams

Meanwhile, authorities have warned beneficiaries to remain alert to scams linked to the migration process and monthly payment cycles.

Postbank said beneficiaries should never share PINs or personal information with unknown callers and cautioned people against fake card replacement messages circulating online.

The government has also warned beneficiaries not to panic or unnecessarily change banks because of misleading information regarding the Gold Card phase-out process.
