Charity started at home before the BabyYumYum team went to the park – not to have a picnic, but to clean up for Mandela Day 2024.

Mandela Day is an annual global celebration and was celebrated on 18 July 2024 to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. This day is a call to action for individuals, communities and organisations to take time to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles while making a positive impact in their own communities. BabyYumYum joined the #ItIsInYourHands theme for Mandela Day 2024.

Charity starts at home and the BYY team embarked on a cat food donation project for the feral cats living and roaming in the office park where BYY is based.  These feline residents were treated with a variety of cat food brands, blankets, treats, new bowls and toys. The 120 pouches of flavoured dinners and over 50kg of food were donated by various companies within the office block, together serving the clowder of cats.

You might wonder who looks after these cats throughout the year. They are cared for every day, come rain or shine, by a very special woman who funds her passion project out of her own pocket as well as paying for the medical expenses and spaying costs of these cats.

As people around the world chose their passion projects and each dedicated their 67 minutes to a cause dear to their hearts, the BabyYumYum team also joined hands with the BabyYumYum Strategic Services team to clean up at Ethel and Gray Park, Abbotsford in Johannesburg.

“The team’s disillusionment with the actual condition of the dry riverbed, which is part of the Braamfontein spruit and longest stream in Johannesburg, and loads of rubbish collected was a wake-up call to how much work there is to be done. While it is just a small act of kindness, we trust that our combined effort made a positive impact on the environment and surrounding community”, says Amanda Rogaly, BabyYumYum’s CEO.

By being more aware of the needs in our respective communities, we can continue to make a difference and work towards better circumstances for all.
