Now in its second year, this is South Africa’s largest national mall-based gaming tournament, featuring a prize pool of R50,000. With eight qualifier events across the country, the tournament will culminate in an epic finale at Canal Walk in Cape Town this September.
Opening up the world of E-sports
Christie Stanbridge, Hyprop’s Brand and Campaigns Marketing Manager, emphasises the inclusive nature of the event: “Our goal is to make esports accessible to everyone, breaking down barriers and removing the stigma that gaming is just for certain age groups. What gamers can expect from the console gaming tournament
Competitions for all ages and skill levels
The MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience 2024 builds on last year’s success, featuring EA FC 24™ as the main title. This ensures the event appeals to a wide audience, from casual players to seasoned pros. Each mall event will offer various competitions and activities, creating a dynamic and inclusive gaming environment.
Qualifier events and schedule
Gamers can join one of the seven heats held from Friday to Sunday at different Hyprop Malls. The top four players from each heat will advance to the Mall Final, joining four online qualifiers. Special heats are dedicated to scholars, ensuring esports schools are well represented.

The grand finale in Cape Town
The National Final, held at Canal Walk, promises to be a spectacular event. The eight finalists from each mall will compete for the ultimate title and a share of the R50,000 prize pool:

- 3rd Place: R7,500
- 4th Place: R2,500

Beat Saber competition
MTN will host a Beat Saber competition with Xbox Series S consoles as prizes. Beat Saber, a VR rhythm game, will be played on Battle+, MTN’s esports platform, offering exclusive videos, tournaments, and challenges for rewards.
Computer mania pop-Up shops
Computer Mania will have pop-up shops at the event, showcasing the latest gaming gear at exclusive prices.
PC gaming zone
Compete in popular games like Fortnite™, Rocket League, Minecraft, Flight Simulator, and Cities: Skylines II using the latest gaming tech from PCBuilder. You can also customise your own gaming PC with their custom build tool.
Redragon Keyboard rebuild race
Celebrate gaming keyboard diversity with the Redragon Keyboard Rebuild Race. Test your speed and win a new Redragon gaming keyboard daily – but only the fastest time wins!
The Toyota Gaming Engine SuperSprint (GT 7)
Compete for the fastest daily lap to win a R1,000 Gift Card. An additional R5,000 Gift Card will be awarded to players who sign up for The Toyota Gaming Engine at MTN SHIFT Gaming Experiences.
Fighting cup
Join daily cups for popular fighting games like Brawlhalla, Tekken, and Street Fighter 6. Winners receive R1,000 Mall Gift Cards, and runners-up receive R500 Mall Gift Cards.
Call of Duty tournament
The Call of Duty Tournament is back with a R60,000 prize pool. The final will be held at Canal Walk in September, offering high stakes for participants.
