The July payments come as social grant recipients enter the second half of the year following April’s grant increases. Meanwhile, questions remain about the long-term future of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, which is currently funded until March 2027.

Focus Turns to the Future of the SRD Grant
While permanent social grants remain a key part of South Africa’s social protection system, attention continues to focus on the future of the SRD grant.
The government has allocated funding for the R370-a-month grant until March 2027, with policymakers continuing to debate longer-term income support measures for unemployed adults. The grant currently supports millions of South Africans who do not qualify for other forms of social assistance.
The National Treasury previously indicated that discussions around a more sustainable form of income support would continue as the government considers options for the years ahead.
Beneficiaries Urged to Keep Details Up to Date
SASSA has continued to remind beneficiaries to ensure that their personal and banking information is correct and up to date.
Outdated details can result in delays, particularly where verification checks are required. Beneficiaries can update their information through SASSA’s official channels when necessary.
No Need to Withdraw Funds Immediately
SASSA has repeatedly advised beneficiaries that grant money remains available in their accounts after payment has been made.
This means recipients who cannot collect their grants on the first payment day can collect them on another day, also helping to reduce congestion at payment points and retailers.
More information about grant payments and services is available on the official SASSA website: https://www.sassa.gov.za.
