Lucinda speaks about her daughter Megan who sadly passed away at the age of 18 years. Megan’s life was just beginning when she tragically passed after battling this devastating disease. Lucinda recounts the painful moment her daughter begged not to die, highlighting the urgency of vaccination in preventing IMD. In this case Meningitis showed up without warning and didn’t give Megan time to heal.
Megan’s mother shares: “She was a lovely, lovely person. Her life was just beginning. I wouldn’t want any parent to ever go through what I had to go through. Megan called me to say, Mom, I’m really, really sick and I took her straight to the hospital.
She could barely walk. She was just in absolute agony and just saying, you know, Mom, please, please don’t let me die. And she went into cardiac arrest. They took Megan down to the ICU ward and about 45 minutes after that, they came out to say that they couldn’t do anything, that she had passed.
You’ve got a sick child in hospital and a couple of hours later your child’s dead. Something like this can be prevented. That’s what’s important. For me that’s quite an amazing thing.”
