‘I Nearly Lost My Life’: DJ Lamiez Opens Up About Hospitalisation After Ovarian Cyst Burst

Her management released a statement on the day of her hospitalisation, confirming that she had been admitted for an emergency surgical procedure. Although the exact nature of the surgical procedure was not disclosed at the time, the team reassured fans and business partners that her condition was stable.

Almost three weeks later, on 26 August, the Metro FM DJ took to her official Instagram account to share details of her hospitalisation. She shared a video featuring her last performance before her hospitalisation, moments from her time in hospital and visits from family members.

In the video, she set the record straight about her hospitalisation and debunked rumours circulating online about a supposed Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). According to the DJ, she had been dealing with recurring ovarian cysts, one of which burst and caused internal bleeding.

According to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that develop in or on an ovary. They are common and often cause little or no discomfort, but some can become large or rupture, which may cause severe pain and bleeding.

Detailing her experience, Lamiez said: “We found out that I had a cyst that had grown and there were two. One ruptured and caused extreme pain. My doctor then put me on medication and told me that I had to decide whether we were going to operate on the bigger one or wait for it to also rupture and go through the pain again.”

The mother of one said that her doctor had advised her to undergo emergency surgery days before her hospital admission, but she asked to delay the procedure so she could fulfil 11 work commitments. She said she managed to push through her gigs until Sunday, when her condition suddenly worsened. After finishing her first performance and en route to her second (just seven minutes away), she became very ill, began vomiting, and cried out in pain.

Lamiez revealed that the doctors discovered additional cysts, which were later identified as endometriosis. 

“A few hours later, I was rushed back to the ER because I had internal bleeding. Next thing I’m being told is that I lost a lot of blood and that I’d need a blood transfusion, which freaked me out. I cried. I was so defeated and mostly upset at my body for allowing it to let this happen,” she said.

“I nearly lost my life because I ignored mine and chose to put work first,” she added. 

In the same post, she dismissed online rumours claiming she had been hospitalised due to complications from a BBL procedure.

“There is no BBL that is leaking. I had liposuction and body sculpting in 2021 and I haven’t had any complications to date,” she said.

Lamiez’s medical experience also prompted her to urge women not to ignore unusual symptoms or persistent pain:

“Ladies, if you experience abnormal periods or back pains, please visit your nearest doctor. Living with constant pain isn’t normal, nor is there any honour in working yourself to death. I learned that the hard way.”
