‘They Are So Brave, Confident and Have Adjusted So Beautifully’: Lootlove on Raising Twins

South Africans were introduced to Luthando “Lootlove” Shosha in 2012 when she claimed victory in the SABC 1 Live Presenter Search. What began as a breakthrough moment quickly evolved into a career that would cement her as one of the country’s most magnetic media personalities. Yet, beyond the spotlight, Lootlove’s story deepens: she is a mother raising twin daughters, Zanothando and Sisizwe, with the same determination and resilience that fuel her career.

January 2019 marked a new chapter for the Metro FM presenter, who stepped into motherhood with the birth of her twin daughters with former partner, rapper Sizwe “Reason” Moeketsi. Their arrival brought fresh routines, unexpected lessons, and a perspective that reshaped her journey both on and off air.

At home, Lootlove isn’t a media personality — she’s a mom navigating the joys and challenges of raising two energetic girls. From watching them develop distinct personalities to guiding them through milestones big and small, she has embraced the balance between career and family life.

In this BabyYumYum interview, Lootlove reflects on motherhood, faith, self‑care and the everyday moments that continue to shape her path.

In what ways has becoming a mother reshaped how you view life, both personally and professionally?

It was a big change, a change for the better. Motherhood made me pay closer attention to where my time and energy go.

What came as the biggest surprise when you stepped into motherhood with twins?

I knew sleepless nights were part of the deal, but I didn’t realise just how long they’d last.

How has motherhood changed how you relate to emotions like patience or frustration?

I’m more patient and think more carefully about how I express frustration. The big thing is apologising when I’ve erred. We are human, but apologising and self‑correcting are big things for me.

Is there a part of your life you’ve had to let go of or transform since becoming a mom?

It’s impossible not to let go of a lot of things. Motherhood is a massive change. I think it completely turns you inside out. But I’ve gained so much more.

How do you make time for your own dreams while prioritising your daughters?

I’ve learnt to understand that when I’m thriving, when I’m inspired, when I express myself creatively, I’m a better parent because I’m operating from a full cup. I find the time to make my dreams come alive, even if it means losing sleep.

How has your faith supported you through motherhood?

My faith has been shaped in the most beautiful ways through motherhood. Having children has brought me closer to God. Some things are pure miracles and cannot be explained. The love I feel for my daughters has deepened my understanding of the divine.

You’ve spoken about faith playing a big part in your life. How does that guide your parenting decisions?

I think it firstly brings me peace; my discernment is sharp. My home is peaceful. My guidance from my guides and God play a role in how I move forward. It’s essential for me to parent with the higher power.

In moments of motherhood chaos, how do you reconnect spiritually or emotionally?

I switch off. I take time out and let my baby take over. I ask for help; I lean into my community.

What daily habits or routines help keep you grounded as a mother of twins?

Having a routine makes a big difference. I make it a priority to wake up before the girls so I can enjoy a little quiet time to myself before the day begins. That space helps me feel grounded and ready to take on whatever comes next.

How do you maintain routines for both twins in a way that keeps you grounded?

It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed, but planning is very necessary, especially now that they almost have two different routines.

Can you share a recent moment when you felt especially proud as a mother?

The girls are in big school now and watching them navigate a new school and separate classes has been hard but also exciting. They are so brave and confident and have adjusted beautifully.

What are some of the joys and unexpected challenges of raising twins?

They are hilarious and oh‑so‑different. They have different responses to everything. Their ganging up on me isn’t as fun, though! But I love the team spirit.

In what ways do their different personalities shape the way you parent each of them?

You have to pay more attention to twins because they are not the same person at all — literally oil and water. You have to adapt to each individual and learn how to parent them alone without the other.

What has been the funniest or most memorable twin moment so far?

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one moment, but I think their first words being “uyaphi” stand out the most. In isiXhosa, “uyaphi” means “where are you going?”, which was quite fitting because one of them refused to sit still and we were always chasing after her. To the other crying for her poop back after we had flushed it down the toilet while potty training.

What advice would you give other parents raising more than one little one at the same time?

Take time out for yourself, community is important, and ask for help.

How do you balance your work life with being present for your daughters?

It takes a lot of sacrifice; some things I can’t do, or rather won’t do, because I need to be there for the girls. I don’t know if a balance exists, but I’m very intentional in showing up as much as I can.

What self‑care practices help you stay grounded when life feels hectic?

Prayer, yoga, and making time for myself have been essential. Taking moments to be alone and recharge helps me reset, find balance, and show up as the best version of myself for my family.

What lessons do your daughters teach you about life and love every day?

The beauty of curiosity. The excitement of everything being new. They also teach me how to let go!

Has motherhood changed the way you approach your sense of purpose or goals for the future?

It absolutely has. Everything I do affects my children, so I have to be more conscious.

What vision do you have for your children’s upbringing, and what values are most important for you to instil?

I want them to love their childhood, and to feel that I created a home they always want to be in and return to, even when they are grown. I need them to always know who they are, their history, their culture, and their story. Love is the essence of life, with God and our ancestors as their compass.
