The reality TV star gave birth to her son earlier this year and has been sharing glimpses of her motherhood journey with her growing fanbase online.
Her Big Brother Mzansi supporters have continued to show their admiration even after the show. They have been showering her with gifts and financial support as she raises her child, a gesture that reflects a common tradition among fans of the show and one she greatly appreciates.
BabyYumYum had the opportunity to connect with Ash-ley, where she candidly reflected on solo-parenting and her wishes for Kenzo-Lu.
How would you describe the transition to motherhood so far?
Honestly, I feel like I’ve only experienced the good side of it so far. Maybe I’m not there yet, but right now it’s been all blessings for me. Having Kenzo-Lu is the biggest blessing of my life.
Which part of motherhood has brought you the greatest joy so far?
I think it’s the different sides of myself that I get to experience through motherhood. My favourite part is waking up in the morning and seeing him happy and laughing because I’m a morning person too.
How would you describe the type of mother you see yourself becoming?
I’m becoming a strong and committed mother, focused on building a better life for my son. Taking care of my baby is a role I embrace with joy.
What is one lesson motherhood has already taught you?
I have realised that I am stronger than I have ever imagined.
What has been the toughest part of motherhood for you so far?
Maybe I’m not there yet. I haven’t faced the downs with my child so far; it’s been all ups, and I sometimes wonder what the catch is because it feels almost too good. Honestly, the greatest blessing I’ve experienced is realising that my baby is not just my child but also my little friend.
How has the shift from being on Big Brother Mzansi to embracing motherhood felt for you?
I don’t think I was a star on Big Brother. I became known afterwards and now I feel like both my baby and I are stars together. We’re both just shining bright in the galaxy.
You seem very protective of your peace. How do you deal with social media opinions as a young mom?
I choose what and what not to respond to if it doesn’t affect me. I don’t bother myself with it because the noise does not define who I am.
Who supports you daily in caring for your baby?
Mostly me. He follows me everywhere. Sometimes I’ll get a nanny to help, but right now it’s mostly me taking care of him.
What type of upbringing do you envision for your child?
Whether we have money or not, I just want him to always know ways to have God in his life because God is the one thing that will guide him through everything. Until he’s 21, I’ll continue teaching him about God and faith. After that, he’ll make his own decisions, but I want him to always know there’s a God who listens to him even when nobody else does.
You’ve been receiving a lot of gifts and support. How proud are you of your supporters?
Very proud. I always say thank you, but honestly, that feels like an understatement. I never expected all the love and gifts I’ve received. At first, I kept asking myself why people were being so kind to me, but then I realised it’s all God. I really love and appreciate them because they continue to support and encourage me every day.
What message do you have for young women about motherhood?
Wait until you get the ring because doing it alone is hard. But if life happens and you end up doing it solo, just pray to God because He will guide you through everything. Even when things go wrong, God will help you get through it.
